Veronica Eala Garcia and Lorina Tan share how they embarked on a transformative journey as female entrepreneurs
Lazada, the region’s pioneering e-commerce platform, recognizes the central role of sellers in its ecosystem. This not only promotes business growth but also allows individuals to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. In collaboration with She Talks Asia, Lazada highlights the inspiring stories of female entrepreneurs like Five Beauty’s. Veronica Eala Garcia and Lorina Tan of Tiny Buds, who share their journeys as businesswomen in hopes of motivating others to pursue their goal.
Veronica Eala Garcia, Five Beauties
Veronica Eala Garcia’s journey in the beauty industry began when she introduced Luxx Lash to the Philippine market in 2018. Luxx Lash, a premium, reusable, chemical-free magnetic eyelash brand, is an innovation revolutionary in the eyelash industry providing ease of use for the woman on the go. Veronica’s passion for beauty and constant search for purpose led her to co-found Five Beauty with marketing expert Isabel Regino and actress Gabbi Garcia. Five Beauty is a brand that offers five beauty essentials: cheeks, lips, eyebrows, concealer and sunscreen. They knew they had to offer something different, so they decided to cater to women who want to simplify their makeup routine with affordable, high-quality products.
In November 2023, the brand launched exclusively on the Lazada application, releasing its first collection: The Hybrid Color Stick. Five Beauty’s partnership with Lazada highlighted the platform’s role in amplifying startup brands. Véronique shares, “What I liked most about the Lazada team was their collaborative spirit. It’s not transactional. They were really wondering, “How can we make this work?” » It was good because they were very open and they helped us find a solution. The program itself helps women entrepreneurs reach consumers, and that support is truly enormous.
Lorina Tan, little buds
Lorina started her journey as co-founder of Tiny Buds in 2013 when her mother invited her to come back to the Philippines to run the business with her. Lorina’s experience with Tiny Buds, a baby essentials brand, reflects her determination to overcome the challenges of the business world. “Really, the challenge was that I had no idea what I was doing. I’m not a mom, so I didn’t think the way my clients thought,” she shares. Despite initial obstacles and unfamiliarity with the market, Lorina embraced humility and learning.
It was during a call with Tiny Buds’ account manager in 2012 that Lorina became aware of the store’s underperformance, which made her understand the steps needed to grow the brand.
Lorina appreciates Lazada for its brand confidence and shares, “You need someone you look up to and who believes in you. This is what happened to me. Lazada took a chance with us, a very little-known baby brand at the time. They showed us that if we worked hard, strategized, and stood out, we could actually become what we are today. Today, Tiny Buds is a leading brand in childcare, with a strong and loyal customer base.
Breaking stereotypes in the business sector
As women like Veronica and Lorina navigate business, their resilience and determination are increasingly recognized. Both women found their passion and success within their markets and proved that drive and determination define success. By sharing their stories, they hope more women can find inspiration and courage to pursue their own entrepreneurial aspirations.
