Loudoun County, a school district in northern Virginia, was back in the news this week following a walkout at one of the high schools. Students unhappy with a policy allowing transgender people to use the restrooms and locker rooms of their choice walked out of class this week in an exercise of their First Amendment rights.
The reasons students gave for the walkout echo the same concerns of parents and other students who stood up and spoke out against policies that remove safe spaces for women. As with most protests, these students were met with counter-protesters who support the mixed policy.
Besides the obvious media character of the students who leave school in opposition to a policy intended to promote gender ideology, the other remarkable aspect of this story is the apparent double standard imposed on these students compared to those who support policies such as the one in question. As with most cultural issues today, the issue of gender ideology has become more of a testament to the question of whose First Amendment rights are respected and which are not.

From the mouths of babies
This week, between 50 and 100 students walked out of Woodgrove High School in Loudoun County, Virginia, to protest Policy 8040. The policy allows non-binary, gender fluid and transgender students to use the restrooms or locker rooms from school. their choice.
A student explain the obvious dangers and disruption this policy caused to her female comrades:
“I stopped using it (the toilet) because I don’t know what will happen to me in there.”

Her concerns and those of her classmates are valid and were a reality for a 2021 student in the same school district who was sexually assaulted by a student in a skirt in the women’s restroom.
She goes on to explain:
“…there are girls in PE (physical education class) who still change in the toilets because they are afraid of who might come in. »
At a time when mental health is at an all-time low for America’s youth and young girls and women are bombarded with demeaning propaganda in the media, it is alarming that they now have to struggle to change in bathrooms out of fear. for a man to share what should be a protected space for girls during a vulnerable activity like undressing.

But it’s not just girls who are sounding the alarm about this policy.

Boys count too
A student explain why he participated in the walkout, stating:
“In the locker room in the morning, it’s an invasion of privacy, as I said, because when males and born males are in our locker rooms and they shower in the morning, females born there can enter as they please.
He goes on to rightly say:
“… It’s not good. And that goes against what we believe.
It’s easy to forget that boys are also part of this equation when administrators decide to adopt policies based on left-wing ideologies. Bathrooms and changing rooms are not only safe spaces for girls and women, but also for boys and men.
Young boys and men are not safe from body shaming culture. The idea of their female peers seeing them naked not only exposes them to bullying and potentially compromising situations, but is fundamentally wrong and should not be what anyone believes.
Earlier this year, high school students in Pennsylvania’s Perkiomen Valley School District walked off the job to protest similar policies.
A student for this walkout explain:
“The girls, we wanted to protect them. They were upset. They didn’t want men in their toilets.

Nothing to see here
The same student who spoke about using the restrooms and locker rooms expressed her and her classmates’ frustration with the school district:
“We express these concerns, but they ignore us and call us right-wing lunatics. We are not crazy. We are tired of being here and being completely ignored.
These students are not simply ignored; the school district actively silences them. Students who wanted to participate in the walkout but did not tell local media ABC 7 News that their teachers discouraged them.
A parent too said local news that several members of the varsity football team who wanted to participate were barred by their teacher, who threatened to tell their coach if they withdrew. However, last year, when students in the same school district orchestrated a strike against Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s policies, teachers actively encouraged participation.
For this week’s walkout, student organizers were informed that an announcement would be made in the school to alert students who wished to participate, just as was done last year for students protesting the policy of governor. But this time, no announcement was made.
Organizers of this week’s protest were told they were not allowed to have signs, flags or parents present, and were also told they had to stay near the school. However, counter-protesters were given signs, flags and parents to participate.

They were also displayed in front of the school, conveniently in direct view of the cameras of all the news channels.
Katie Young junior said local news:
“They can do whatever they want and we have to follow rules that don’t exist for them.”
Unfortunately, she’s not wrong, and this week’s walkout was probably the best and saddest civics lesson on current political discourse she’s ever received at school.

Not on your side
The behavior of Loudoun County Public Schools administrators, school board members, and the special interest groups fueling their cause proves that none of these groups who claim to care about children, education, and safety doesn’t actually do it. What interests them is the agenda that fills their pockets the most.
This program is not consistent with the safety or education of children. One of the organizers of this week’s walkout, Ronan Mackey, commented on the rules they had to follow versus those the counter-protesters had to follow:
“It’s a double standard, I think. They’re trying to push an agenda, and they don’t want us to do what we’re doing because it goes against what they’re trying to impose on us as kids.
Ronan should get extra credit in his American Government course because it couldn’t be explained better than the way he presented it. “They” are trying to advance an agenda.
An agenda that aims to erase girls, confuse young people in an already confusing and psychologically vulnerable time, and oversexualize children. What purpose ?
Now that’s a good question.
This is what happens every day in Western schools.
