Aaron Rodgers cleared the air on whether or not he brought a bang to a recent New York Jets game.
“It wasn’t a bang first of all,” Rodgers, 39, said on a Friday, Nov. 10, “Pat McAfee Show” appearance. “I left the field with my Maestro Dobel Tequila that (ESPN Deportes sideline reporter) John Sutcliffe gives me every time he sees me at Monday night football.
The quarterback explained that as he was preparing to leave the field on Thursday, November 9, he heard “a British guy shout” his name which turned out to be that of his friend. Hugh Coles. After Rodgers went to say hello to Coles, 31, he ended up dropping the uniquely shaped bottle.
“I see Hugh, I give him a hug, I apply it, I go to pick it up, it falls and I lose half my tequila,” he shared. “So shout out to John for bringing me tequila, shout out to Maestro Dobel, shout out to Hugh, shout out to bongs everywhere, but that wasn’t one of them.”
A clip of Rodgers dropping the item went viral and set the internet ablaze with theories. While many users thought the athlete brought a bang to the field, Rodgers expressed disappointment that the guesses weren’t more creative.
“It’s a little weak with the conspiracies,” Rodgers joked Friday. “I feel like it should have been something more, like, you know, dolphin sperm or giant tears or something better than that.”
Sutcliffe, for his part, corroborated Rodgers’ story with his own message.
“We arrived in New York 🗽, and I had to see my friend @AaronRodgers12 to shout Mooooonday Niiiight football together and give him a gift @maestrodobelmx @dobeltequila,” the sports journalist wrote in Spanish alongside a video of he and Rogers shared via X Monday, November 6.
Rodgers’ first season with the Jets got off to a rocky start. During the first game at MetLife Stadium of the 2023 season in September, the footballer injured his ankle. It was later confirmed that Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon.
“Thank you to everyone who reached out, called, texted, texted, connected via friend, etc. This means a lot to me, and I will try to get back to you soon 🥹❤️,” he said. he wrote via Instagram on September 13, breaking his silence on what appeared to be a season-ending injury. “I am completely heartbroken and overwhelmed by all the emotions, but deeply touched and humbled by the support and love. 💔.”
Earlier this week, Rodgers said he was making progress return to the field sooner rather than later. By discussing with Derwin Jamesthe Los Angeles Chargers safety, 27, asked Rodgers when he planned to return. Rodgers patted James on the back and joked: “Give me a few weeks.”
