President Biden said this hostage deal between Israel and Hamas, for which his administration deserves credit, should bring American hostages home.
President Biden said in a statement provided to PoliticusUSA:
I welcome the agreement to secure the release of hostages taken by the terrorist group Hamas during its brutal assault on Israel on October 7.
Jill and I have held all of the hostages and their loved ones close to our hearts these many weeks, and I am extremely happy that some of these brave souls, who endured weeks of captivity and indescribable ordeal, will be reunited with their families once that this agreement will be fully implemented.
I thank Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar and Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi for their essential leadership and partnership in reaching this agreement. And I appreciate the commitment by Prime Minister Netanyahu and his government to an extended pause to ensure that this agreement can be fully implemented and ensure the provision of additional humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering of families innocent Palestinians in Gaza. I look forward to speaking with each of these leaders and staying in close contact as we work to ensure this agreement is implemented in full. It is important that all aspects of this agreement are fully implemented.
As president, my priority is ensuring the safety of Americans held hostage around the world. That’s why, from the first moments of Hamas’ brutal attack, my national security team and I worked closely with regional partners to do everything possible to secure the release of our citizens. We saw the first results of this effort in late October, when two Americans were reunited with their loved ones. Today’s deal should bring home additional American hostages, and I won’t stop until they are all freed.
Today’s agreement is a testament to the tireless diplomacy and determination of many dedicated people across the United States government to bring Americans home.
THE Biden The administration is being praised for taking the first step toward de-escalating the war between Israel and Hamas. The release of hostages is important, but the ability of hundreds of humanitarian trucks to flow into Gaza during the ceasefire will save countless lives.
Now that Biden has led the parties to take the first step toward peace, it is important to move forward and negotiate a longer pause and ceasefire. The United States has been pressuring Israel to take more targeted action against Hamas in order to stop the massacres of innocent Palestinians.
The United States is trying to support Israel in its war against Hamas while defending the Palestinian people and the long-term peace that will come from a two-state solution. The Biden administration has done a good job in one of the world’s most tense geopolitical conflicts.
There is still much to do, but this agreement is an important first step towards peace.
