PRESIDENT BIDEN’S RE-ELECTION TO THE OVAL OFFICE: MoveOn will play a key role in the campaign for the Biden-Harris ticket in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan and Georgia.
RECOGNIZING THE HOUSE: The path to a Democratic majority in the House is clear but not easy: We need to flip a handful of seats to regain control. Since early last year, MoveOn members have been organizing on the ground in Complicit Caucus districts – 18 swing districts that Biden won in 2020 but Republicans won in 2022. In total, MoveOn is targeting more than two dozen seats that give Democrats the edge. try to win back the House in 2024.
PROTECT THE SENATE MAJORITY: With 34 seats up for re-election, we will need all hands on deck to maintain our very slim majority in the Senate. MoveOn invests primarily in Senate seats in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Nevada and Ohio.
HOW WE WIN
MOBILIZING VOTERS WITH THE POWER OF VOLUNTEERS
Organizing MoveOn in 2024 will persuade and mobilize “major voters,” that is, people who voted for the first time or who became more active after the 2016 elections. Within this population of more than 11 million voters in our target geographies, MoveOn focuses on young voters and voters who did not vote in 2016 and/or 2022. Young people are voting at a higher rate than previous generations to their age. , and they reject MAGA by margins of 20 points. If these key voters go to the polls, they will have the margin they need to win.
Because it is essential that we start talking to voters now, we will begin contacting voters earlier than ever, reaching voters most likely to not participate in elections and deploying our volunteer base to encourage them to vote. Thousands of volunteers will take action and participate in our persuasion and relational engagement programs between now and Election Day, generating tens of thousands of persuasion contacts.
Hundreds of MoveOn members have already signed up to become vote mobilizers. They will lead voter contact programs in their communities by hosting house parties and training and organizing other volunteer members. The opportunity to build community through in-person actions for the first time since the pandemic began will be added motivation to join this effort to impact the election!
Based on consistent research (from the Analyst Institute and MoveOn’s previous election efforts) that shows that multiple contacts through different communication channels have a higher impact than a single connection, we will contact voters using three methods during the persuasion phase, to overlap contacts. and increase the likelihood that the voter will remember the awareness. MoveOn volunteers will spend the spring and summer using multiple contact methods, such as postcards, phone banks and canvassing, to reach voters. They will talk to voters about the election issues and issues that matter to them, sell the victories won by progressives and Democrats, and make pragmatic and strategic arguments for why their votes are essential.
MAXIMIZE IMPACT WITH TRIPLE VOTES
In the fall, we will focus on vote tripling, a practice of encouraging voters to contact three of their friends and family members to remind them to vote, help them make a plan, and ensure that they will participate. This can be done via text, online, over the phone, or in person.
Vote tripling is up to five times more effective than traditional methods because it relies on existing relationships of trust. In the 2022 midterm elections, MoveOn’s vote tripling program helped turn out approximately 48,000 to 50,000 voters in conflicting districts and states, or tens of thousands of voters who otherwise would have could stay at home.
SHAPING PUBLIC AND MEDIA NARRATIVES
Our voter contact efforts, led by our members and volunteers, will be supplemented by paid communications and MoveOn’s traditional rapid response campaign.
Our 2024 electoral program:
- Set in motion a massive digital and television advertising campaign– including during Trump’s criminal trials.
- Take advantage of our huge social media reach with a hard-hitting education campaign on the most unpopular policies Trump has promised his donors, including his agenda of authoritarianism and the further erosion of our freedoms and rights.
- Central communities whose rights have been decimated by Trump’s policies– from people affected by abortion bans to communities of color targeted by voter suppression policies – to show how dire the threats to our nation are. MoveOn members will share their stories about why this election matters to them, and we’ll deliver the videos as ads to the voters most likely to be convinced.
PROTECTING DEMOCRACY AGAINST THREATS FROM Trump AND THIRD PARTIES
Our fundamental freedoms and institutions are at risk if Trump, twice impeached and criminally indicted, returns to the Oval Office. He and his advisors have made it clear that they will destroy democracy and our rights.
And we must prevent any third-party candidate from hindering a Democratic victory. Data shows that 2016 will surely repeat itself if third-party spoilers, like RFK Jr., don’t step down.
