For decades, it has been well known in New York business circles that Trump is a fraud and an incompetent businessman. He is, however, a talented con artist. Who inherits $5 million from a father and goes bankrupt five times? Who starts a university for business students and gets sued for fraud and loses? Who opens a children’s charity and gets sued for fraud and loses? Who gets sued by lawyers for not paying their bills? Who refuses to pay contractors because their work is defective? Who owns a reality TV show presenting a false image of a financial genius? Who said he’s worth $10 billion and he’s not? He is only an image, a boast whose day in court is finally coming.
When the trials begin, Americans will hear from former Trump loyalists and employees that he risked our national security, defrauded Middle America, took advantage of his position as president, admired dictators, and was drawn to violence. What we don’t know about what makes Trump unfit for office goes beyond the horrible facts we already know. The blocking of aid to Ukraine is proof enough that Trump and Putin share a contempt for democracy: those who support Trump support Putin and are therefore not patriots. Putin is a known enemy. What would Trump lovers do if President Biden suddenly befriended Xi Jinping and his ideology? Some would call him a traitor. Hypocrisy is criminal.
