Trump panics on Christmas Eve and seeks criminal immunity for his alleged crimes against the United States and attempted coup.
Trump posted on Truth Social: “I wasn’t campaigning, the election was over. I was doing my duty as president to expose and further investigate a rigged and stolen election. I had the obligation to do so, and the evidence found is voluminous and irrefutable. Therefore, among other reasons, I am of course entitled to IMMUNITY. ALSO, I DID NOTHING WRONG. Stop the witch hunt NOW! »
Constitutionally speaking, the presidency has no investigative power. Congress has oversight power. The president has no role in administering or supervising elections. Asset had no power or authority to “investigate” anything.
Elections are not an official presidential function.
Courts have consistently ruled that Trump was acting as a candidate in an election. The evidence for these decisions is that efforts to overturn the election continued throughout the Trump campaign. Trump himself has repeatedly stated that the election is not over and that he disputes the results.
In his Truth Social panic, Trump admits the election was over and he was trying to stay in power illegally.
Trump’s social media post is a gift for special counsel Jack Smith because while trying to justify immunity, the now former president admits he knew the election was over, but continued to try to stay in power by using the power of the presidency to pressure election officials in states like Michigan, Nevada and Georgia.
Without even realizing it, Trump gave prosecutors a big gift and strengthened their criminal case against him.
Merry Christmas to everyone and to Trump, speedy trial.
