Few years ago, I wrote about how most parents seem to have an age of children that they get on particularly well with – maybe tiny babies, maybe clumsy toddlers, maybe serious six-year-olds…
I always thought that age three And four would be my forever favorite – they are such magical thinkers! – so nothing surprised me more than the ages of 10 and 13, which are the BEST. The boys now make me laugh not only with their cuteness but also with their wit, and I feel like I’m living with my two incredibly fun (and 1000 dirty socks).
Here’s some fun stuff they’ve been breaking out with recently, first from Anton…
We recently received a hamster; Anton is obsessed and Toby really doesn’t care. The other night I said to Anton, “Buttercup is so lucky to have you as a father. I guess that makes me his grandmother. And he said, “Yeah, and Toby is like his 15th cousin.”
Anton (before getting the hamster): “I need to have a boy hamster so he won’t mind seeing me in my birthday suit.”
After Anton got his hair cut, he walked out the door, looking upset: “My hairdresser hurt me, brother.”
The other day I saw a beautiful watercolor painting on our kitchen counter.
Me: “What is that?”
Anton: “I don’t know.”
Me: “But what is it, really?”
Anton: “I literally have no idea. »
Me: “But it has your name on it.”
Anton: “Oh, yeah, I made it in art.”
Additionally, I am moved to see the boys becoming more aware of the world around them. Anton and I were watching The Golden Bachelor (I know), and one of the women was talking about her career in finance. And the bachelor said: “OMG this is AMAZING, I’m so IMPRESSED, oh my god.” » And Anton remained silent and then said: “Brother, that’s a bit sexist.” I asked him to elaborate, and he said, “He’s so amazed she could do that, but of course she could do it.” It’s cool, but it’s not, surprising.” It was such a small, subtle thing in the show, and I was so happy that he understood it and was able to explain it.
Meanwhile, Toby remains the most fun person to text with. Here is his entire personality in four texts:
Haha and he really knows how much I love him:
