Shay Mitchell reflects on his escape role. “When I booked the show, I knew I didn’t have as much acting experience as the other girls. Part of me was scared, but I knew I would figure it out eventually,” she said. Mitchell said. “Do I think my performance was Oscar winning? Absolutely not. But damn. I did it and I did my best. I learned more (on that set) than I did on no matter what theater class.”
In the middle of her PLL fame, Mitchell says she felt like the show and her character defined her “a little bit, especially in the early years… where everyone was just talking about Emily.”
“I got to a point where I said, ‘OK, but I’m here too and I can do other things,'” she says. “I didn’t want to be pigeonholed into the acting world and only be able to play one note. So I think social media helped me showcase my personality outside of the character I was playing.”
Her travel content on social media eventually led her to start a travel accessories business. She continued this business activity by creating a brand of tequila seltzer. His entrepreneurial spirit is not about to die down.
“I have a few other things I’m working on, and I don’t mind that either,” she says. “I’m excited because I love creating. It’s like giving birth, but to a brand.”
She also literally gave birth to two daughters, Atlas, 4, and Rome, 1. Mitchell, who is Filipino and Irish, shares the toddlers with her partner, Matte Babel, who is Trinidadian and Caucasian.
“My duty as a parent is to celebrate the fact that Atlas and Rome are co-ed,” she says. “Matte and I encourage them to be curious about their background and to treat everyone equally.”
Mitchell has already addressed this subject in a June 2020 interview with ET.
“I think it’s very important to educate them from a young age so that they know that no matter what you look like, you deserve to love and be loved without judgment, to be everything and put end to everything and that’s it,” Mitchell said at the time. . “Especially coming from a mixed family herself.”
As for what she hopes to teach her daughters, Mitchell says Byrdie“I want them to see me and know that you can be extremely independent and still rely on support from others.”
“I want to instill in them a strong work ethic,” she adds. “My parents always said that if you achieve something on your own, no one can take it away from you. So I want them to know that if you believe in something, you can achieve it.”
Mitchell plans to continue being an example of hard work for her children, although that’s about all she’s sure of for the future.
“I’m not excited about the destination. The exciting part has always been the journey. That’s what I want to keep doing. I never want to achieve a goal. I don’t have a goal,” says- She. “I want to continue to be happy and for my children to be healthy, and that’s it.”
