Liberal comedian Sarah Silverman is apologizing for a post she shared on social media about the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Silverman apologizes
Silverman, 53, said the Los Angeles Times that she has “no explanation” for why she did not fully read a vlogger’s Instagram post that attempted to justify Israel cutting off food and electricity to Gaza residents before share.
“I did the worst thing anyone could do,” she said. “I was talking to a friend on Instagram and I said, ‘I feel like people have completely forgotten that there are hostages.’ They said “Totally” and sent me everything I had posted. And I only read the first line and put it in my stories.
Silverman, long known for expressing radically liberal political views, went on to say that she “generally makes very measured decisions.”
“I screwed myself up,” she said. “I try not to define people by their worst moments. But it will pass, or it will not pass. I can’t control it.

Silverman removes his post
This happened after Silverman deleted the post, write on (formerly known as Twitter), “Oh f— yeah, I took that down, I put it in someone’s stories, I realized it was a mistake to post in the furor devastated wondering where the hostages are in all this madness.”
Newsweek reported that the initial statement shared by Silverman alleged that “many say it is inhumane for Israel to cut off water and electricity to Gaza.”
“Israel made it pretty simple: ‘Release the hostages and we’ll reactivate it.’ Instead of pleading with Hamas to release civilian hostages, including babies and young children, politicians (cough, cough, AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez)) are calling Israel inhumane,” he continued. “If that’s not enough for you: Israel does not need to provide these resources to Gaza (which it does, for free). If Hamas did not spend billions of dollars on terrorism, it would be able to build the infrastructure necessary to support itself.”

Social media users hit back at Silverman
Social media users were quick to criticize Silverman for the post, according to The New York Post.
“I get high almost every day and find a way to get out and help people. I never thought about supporting war crimes or wanting children to die because of it. You are a sick human and I’m happy to be called,” one furious user replied.
“Imagine getting high and then suddenly supporting apartheid and genocide? We smoked weed and stood for love and peace… How crazy,” another added, with a third in writing“A crappy announcement.”
Last October, Hamas launched a shock attack on southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking 240 others hostage. Since then, there has been a rise in anti-Semitism in the United States, and it remains to be seen what impact Silverman’s remarks will have on his career in the left-wing world of Hollywood, if at all.
