Relief activities continued in Tamil Nadu’s rain-ravaged coastal Thoothukudi district as an NDRF team accompanied by police personnel rescued people stranded in the SIPCOT industrial area on Saturday.

Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena today undertook an inspection of flood-affected areas in the district and assessed the damage due to rains. Relief activities are in full swing in the Antoniyarpuram area, which has been among the worst affected.
A bridge near Antoniyarpuram on the Thoothukudi-Palayamgottai national highway was destroyed during extreme rains on December 17 and 18 that triggered floods, while the Eral and Attur bridges on the Thoothukudi-Tiruchendur highway were also damaged. been seriously damaged.
Restoration work is also underway in Srivaikuntam, Attur, Eral, Agaram and Kayalpattinam areas which are still flooded.
A central team had already inspected the flood damage in the district.
