Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) won two major titles at the recent ESGBusiness Awards for its commitment to transforming toll roads into “green highways,” as well as the development of its My CG App web application.
MPTC’s vision of transforming toll roads into “green highways” sets a new standard for infrastructure projects in the Philippines. Through pioneering efforts, the company has seamlessly integrated energy-efficient and resource-efficient technologies on its major highways, including the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), and the Cebu-Cordova Laguna Expressway (CCLEX). NLEX, MPT South and CCLEX have also implemented greening and reforestation programs that will significantly capture emissions through proper management and maintenance. NLEX has planted trees along highways to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
In 2020, CCLEX was able to plant 66,561 mangrove plants with a survival rate of 65%. Similarly, MPT South, in partnership with government and non-government organizations, facilitated mangrove planting activities along the highway in Paranaque.
In 2021, a notable milestone in MPTC’s sustainability journey is the LEED Gold certification awarded to the MPT South Headquarters in Imus, Cavite – the MPTSouth Hub. Its recreational facility, the MPT South Hive, also received LEED certification the following year.
Recognizing that its offices must also operate sustainably, solar panels totaling 1,011.34 kWp were installed at the offices of NLEX, MPTSouth and CCLEX, to meet their daytime energy needs. It also continues to install energy-saving technologies such as LED lights and motion sensors throughout its offices.
