William D. Eggers is co-author, with Donald F. Kettl, of Bridge Builders: How Government Can Transcend Borders to Solve Big Problems. He is now an executive director of Deloitte Government Information Centerbut 30 years ago he was director of government reform for Reason Foundationthe non-profit association that publishes Reason and this podcast. Actually, I interviewed him when I applied for my first job here.
Eggers has since worked with dozens of governments at all levels, both in the United States and abroad, and he has written a shelf of books on the appropriate scope and function of government. I spoke to him about Bridge builders, what he’s learned over the past three decades about making government more efficient and less intrusive, and why it’s high time to move beyond what he and his co-author call “the government model of ATMs “.
