There is a saying in the social media world that the Internet is undefeated. So while Father Time pursues LeBron James, the Internet prides itself on tackling the king to the ground every chance it gets. This time, they captured it after James and the Lakers earned a win Saturday night, becoming the first NBA Cup champions and win the first tournament in season. Of course, it’s only fitting that LBJ was also named the tournament’s first-ever MVP. And that’s all social media needed to start the roasting session on Bron.
All the memes came out last night after the Lakers win, many clowning James for carrying on like he just won ring #5 (although, for some of them, James’ most ardent fans, it’s like he won a fifth NBA Finals and MVP). James is already a dramatic character, so you should have seen this coming. Congratulations to those who called it (people like me). Lebron I desperately wanted to win this tournament. In the minds of James and his minions, this only reinforces the idea that he is the greatest of all time.
It’s certainly an accomplishment, but it doesn’t come close to comparing to winning the actual NBA championship. Now, if James leads the Lakers to win the franchise’s 18th title this year and its fifth, then we have something to discuss. But hey, we’re not here to make it rain on the parade planned in Los Angeles. Hmmm…is there a championship parade planned for this prestigious championship? Otherwise, LeBron’s people should schedule him because he will never pass up an opportunity to celebrate.
Congratulations to the King and his Laker teammates. Let them enjoy this victory because they deserved it by swimming in the choppy waters of this convoluted tournament. And here we all thought 2020 was the last time we would see James celebrate a championship victory. Eventually, the NBA will likely start handing out rings for this championship as well, because we live in a time where everyone should be celebrated as a winner. Let’s see how long it will be before this title carries as much weight as the NBA Finals. If LeBron wins this tournament enough, it will only be a matter of time.
