Eggnog is a delicious treat vacation seasonal treat, but store-bought versions often contain pasteurized eggs, huge amounts of sweeteners and other additives. This traditional homemade eggnog recipe is a great source of beneficial fats, protein, spices, and possibly heat from the alcohol.
Homemade eggnog recipe with coconut milk
Eggnog can be a health food when prepared the traditional way (and you can definitely make this homemade version without the alcohol). Most eggnog recipes use whole milk and heavy cream, but this one uses coconut milk for that rich, creamy taste. He has many benefits of coconut, especially beneficial medium-chain fatty acids. It has a noticeable coconut flavor, but I think it’s even better with spiced dark rum!

The addition of rum or brandy also makes it a drink that keeps a smile on your face, as kids may stay up past midnight on Christmas Eve.
Grocery store eggnog uses pasteurized eggs to prevent salmonella poisoning, but it also destroys some nutrients. I’m okay with using lightly cooked eggs in this recipe because I get mine from a healthy source. If you don’t have your own chicken coop, look for eggs from healthy free-range or pasture-raised chickens.
How to use egg whites
Since this recipe only uses the egg yolks, you will have some egg whites left over. Here are some ideas on what to do with it.
Serving Dairy-Free Eggnog
You can garnish your holiday drink with a sprinkle of nutmeg or cinnamon on top. Or you can add whipped cream (like this coconut whipped cream). And if you really don’t like eggnog, try some. homemade hot chocolate instead.
I’ve never been a big fan of store-bought eggnog, but I think this is the best eggnog. Try it! You might love it too!
