There have been several polls in recent months that show Trump leading Joe Biden in swing states and those polls are making Democrats very nervous, but another new poll has some Democrats much more worried.
This poll is about voter identification. Democrats have had a clear advantage on this score for years, but that has changed.
The split between Americans who identify as Democrats and Republicans is now almost perfectly equal.
Nick Arama reports at Red state:
Fascinating poll shows another major shift among voters that brings good news for the GOP
Since the 1990s, when Republicans last had a lead in voter identification, there has been a shift toward people identifying as Democrats until there was 5%. Voters identifying as Democrats more than Republicans in 2020.
But there now appears to have been a shift to the right, according to a recently published Pew Research Center analysis comparing figures from the past twenty years through 2023.
However, Pew’s 2023 results reveal a significant shift in party affiliation this cycle, reporting that 49% of voters identify as Democrats or Democratic-leaning, while 48% identify as Republicans or Republican leaning.
Additionally, about 33% of respondents said they identify as conservative or moderate in 2023, while on the other side of the aisle, only 23% identify as liberal or liberal-leaning Democrats.
That means Democrats were up five points and now it’s almost even, and they now identify more as conservative than liberal.
Take a look at the breakdown below:
This is what has made Democrats, career politicians and insiders lose their minds.

All of this is bad news for Democrats and great news for Trump and Republicans. The country is trending to the right.
