Epic has introduced a new tool for documenting toxic behavior in Fortnite. Players will now have access to Voice Reports, which will continuously record voice chats in 5-minute segments that players can submit as evidence to moderators when reporting bullying and other forms of harassment. For anyone under the age of 18, this feature will be automatically activated.
Fortnite Players over 18 will have a little more say in how voice reporting is applied. In the game’s main settings, they will have the option to set it to “Always on”, which will apply to every channel they are in, or to “Off when possible”, which will disable it in the party chains with friends for as long as possible. because everyone’s preferences match.
In what is likely an effort to allay privacy concerns, Epic says audio clips will not be retained for long and will only be stored locally on the user’s device unless they are submitted as evidence. And in these cases, you will have to act quickly. With each new recording, the previous one will be deleted. “This means that only the immediate last five minutes of audio can be reported,” Epic said.
Under normal circumstances, audio clips will be automatically deleted after 14 days or once action is taken, the company added. If the accused player appeals the decision within this period, it may be extended for an additional 14 days. However, Epic says it will retain an audio clip for as long as necessary if required by law.
The movement follows in a similar way , Microsoft, Sony and others in the recent past as they attempt to crack down on harmful behavior online. Earlier this year, alongside reports of abuse in voice chats.
