After more than a year of collaboration with Sézane and wearing their pieces (almost) daily, I wanted to put together a roundup of the best (i.e. most versatile, most worn, and best quality) items that I’ve had the pleasure of adding to my wardrobe. When I think about this list, I realize that each of the silhouettes is unique to Sézane, which means you won’t find a dupe like this on sites like J.Crew, Madewell, etc. The silhouettes sell over and over again for a reason. Today I’m sharing, in no particular order, the wardrobe must-haves that I would purchase from Sézane if I were building my wardrobe from scratch.
Here are my favorite wardrobe staples I received this year from Sézane.
1. Betty Cardigan
$170
Made from merino wool, the Betty cardigan is ideal for winter. A stylish crochet finish along the collar, pockets and bottom sleeves adds a touch of texture to your outfit, making it perfect for any occasion, from work to weekend projects. This timeless piece can be paired with everything from jeans to skirts to create different looks.
A note on fit: This is a bit small. Consider ordering a size larger.
2. Jacques pants
$170
I have an apple shape and have mostly stayed away from paper pants because they’re generally not very flattering on me. But not these. The fit of these pants is incredible: they are flattering and very comfortable.
A note on fit: They fit true to size. You will probably need to have them hemmed if you are under 5′ 7″.
3. Emile Cardigan
$170
The Emile cardigan is perfect. It can be worn with the buttons in front or behind! The lightweight alpaca and wool blend makes it cozy enough for cold days, while the balloon sleeves give it a fun silhouette. It will pair perfectly with jeans and a t-shirt or with a feminine skirt and blouse.
A note on fit: It fits true to size. However, its fit is slightly oversized, so if you are between sizes, consider choosing the next size down.
4. Louise Jumper
$145
The Louise sweater is a wardrobe essential. This super kid mohair sweater has long sleeves, a round neckline and a button placket at the bottom of the sleeve. Pair it with high-waisted jeans and boots for a classic look or a mini skirt and heels for a more polished look. I also like to put it on my shoulders or turn it into a scarf. No matter how you wear it, this versatile piece will always have you looking effortlessly chic.
A note on fit: This sweater runs large. Go down two sizes if you want a more fitted look!
5. Raw Sexy
$125
These jeans have a hold on me. I wear my gray clothes all the time and have gotten compliments on them at the grocery store. This is an ideal fit if you miss the style of denim with a narrower leg but still want to feel very current. I love pairing cream denim with crisp whites and navy. Pair them with a tucked-in blouse or fitted tee for an effortless yet stylish silhouette.
A note on fit: Take a size larger in these jeans. I’m usually a size 25 in denim but I wear a 27 in them. Also be sure to consider the fit notes listed under each wash, as different washes will fit differently. This cream color is 99% organic cotton and 1% elastane and runs larger than my gray pair, which is 100% organic cotton.
6. Romie bag
$430
A classic, minimal black bucket bag was at the top of my list this year. I love The Row and Céline models but they are not in my budget. The Romie is absolutely stunning and has this understated luxury feel that reminds me of what I love about The Row and Céline. It’s also a fraction of the cost of these bags! The Romie bag is the perfect accessory for carrying all your essentials in effortless, elegant style.
7. Tobias sweater
$170
I never tire of Sézane knitwear. This half-zip sweater looks like a dream and is perfect for layering. This sweater is so beautiful that I wear it everywhere: to the grocery store, to Pilates classes, and to dinner. It’s perfect for running errands or having a casual lunch with friends.
A note on fit: The Tobias sweater fits normally. However, if you prefer a more fitted look, I recommend sizing down a size.
